Royal Australian Navy

Electrotech Australia has completed over sixty (60) turnkey installations of communications and navigation equipment for Defence Capital Projects. Electrotech has earned an excellent reputation for cost-effective, on-time and quality installation, maintenance and support services to the RAN.

  • Armidale Class Patrol Boats – Supply and installation of navigation and communications (GMDSS) equipment and its through life support for the 14 Armidale Class Patrol Boats.
  • GMDSS – Supply, installation and support of GMDSS equipment (and various upgrades) onboard 38 ships, including FCPBs, SMLs, LCHs, FFGs, LPAs, MSAs, WESTRALIA, TOBRUK, SUCCESS, LEEUWIN, MELVILLE and CERBERUS (including ‘Train – the – Trainer’ General Operator Certificate courses).
  • Radars – Supply, installation and support of Bridge Master-E Navigation Radars for Armidale Patrol Boats, LCH’s TOBRUK, WESTRALIA, WATSON and CERBERUS.
  • Support for MK 49 SINS (ANZAC) and MK 39 Ring Laser Gyros (LPA’s).
  • C. Plath fibre-optic Gyrocompasses – Provision and Support for LCH’s SMLs.
  • Supply installation and Support of Seatel Satellite TV systems on Anzac Frigates and FFG’s.
  • Miscellaneous installations, including:
    • GCCS-M (TOBRUK, SUCCESS, LPA’s etc),
    • Main Broadcast & Alarm System (LCH and SMLs),
    • Supply and Installation of autopilot, NDS, Next G and Mini-LAN (LCH)
    • Sperry ES5100 Echo Sounder retrofit (LCH)
    • maintenance, refurbishment and support for steering, gyro and rudder angle indicators for HMAS MANOORA, KANIMBLA and TOBRUK.

Government Agencies

Electrotech has undertaken extensive projects with Antarctic Division, Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT), Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and the Australian Customs Service (ACS).

Electrotech is currently supplying and installing Sperry VisionMaster Radars, FLIR M3 Night Vision Cameras, Saab R4 AIS and other systems on all 28 Sydney Ferries Vessels.

Electrotech provided and supports navigation suite and GMDSS equipment on the 8 Bay Class patrol vessels, including communications upgrade with installation of Thrane & Thrane Fleet 77, internal communications and video-conference equipment, Saab R4S Secure AIS Systems and CCTV Systems.

Shipbuilding Industry

Electrotech is the leading supplier in Australia of communications and navigation equipment to shipbuilding companies such as Austal Ships / Image (most recently 6 patrol craft for Trinidad and Tobago), Incat, BAE, Thales and Image.

Commercial Shipping

Major contracts have included the supply and installation of complete “turn-key” GMDSS packages to Australia’s major shipping companies.  Electrotech Australia claims ASP Ship Management, Shell Tankers, P&O Maritime Services, Teekay Shipping, Svitzer, BP, Mobil, Shell, Tidewater, TT Line, Woodside, Perkins Shipping, and offshore FPSO’s as principal GMDSS customers.

Electrotech has completed full GMDSS conversions on over 100 ships.  Electrotech Australia is an approved provider of GMDSS Shore Based Maintenance services, with over 90 ships currently under contract.

Electrotech has recently installed Saab R4 AIS systems on more than 60 Svitzer Tugs Australia wide.

Electrotech has also supplied and installed integrated navigation and communications systems on 3 LNG carriers for Shell and BP (in Singapore and Japan).

Electrotech Australia is approved by all of the major Class Societies, including Lloyds, ABS, DNV, BV, Germanischer Lloyd and NKK, for the provision of safety Radio Surveys.

Fishing Industry

Electrotech is Australia’s major supplier of Inmarsat Mini-C vessel monitoring equipment on fishing vessels involved in the Fisheries Management System.  Thrane & Thrane equipment supplied by Electrotech is approved by the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA), Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) and Australian State Fisheries Authorities.

Land Mobile – Satellite Systems

Electrotech Australia is the leading Australian supplier of Inmarsat equipment for transportable and land-mobile applications.  Substantial sales of Thrane & Thrane satellite communications equipment have been made to organisations including emergency services, mining & exploration, defence and government agencies; where reliable communications are absolutely vital to their operations.

Electrotech has supplied Thrane & Thrane Inmarsat equipment to the Australian commercial market and the Department of Defence, DFAT and other government agencies.

Broadband satellite terminal activities have grown considerably since Inmarsat’s I4 Pacific satellite was launched in 2009. Electrotech supplies the BGAN portable terminals as well as the Explorer 727 that is specifically designed for vehicular activities.

Vessel Tracking Systems

Electrotech Australia supplies integrated vessel tracking and management systems (VTS) for ship movement control in ports and approaches.  Fully integrated Transas – Sperry/Decca systems have been installed at Port Hedland and at Fremantle. Port Control Radar and AIS systems have also been fitted at Darwin Naval Base and HMAS STIRLING (WA). Electrotech has also supplied 10 Saab R40 AIS Base Stations for Maritime Safety Queensland.
