The Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme (Handheld Satphones) is an Australian Government initiative to help people living or working outside of terrestrial mobile phone coverage to purchase satellite mobile phones. The Scheme is scheduled to cease on 30 June 2013.
Information for phone purchasers
• Eligible consumers include individuals, small businesses, community groups, not-for-profit organisations, Indigenous corporations, emergency service organisations, health organisations and educational institutions.
• Eligible applicants must spend 180 days over a two year period outside of terrestrial mobile phone coverage.
• The application must be approved before the phone is purchased. Note: The subsidy is paid to dealers, who deduct it from the retail price of the phone to consumers.
• If you are approved for the subsidy, you will be able to buy a satellite mobile phone from a registered dealer for the retail price less the amount of the subsidy. Approved applicants can receive up to 85 per cent of the retail price of a satellite phone, to a maximum of $1000 (including GST)

About the Australian Broadband Guarantee
The Australian Broadband Guarantee is an Australian Government initiative designed to help residential and small business premises access a high quality broadband service regardless of where they are located. The program targets premises unable to access commercial metro-comparable services, particularly those living in remote parts of Australia.
Under the Australian Broadband Guarantee, a metro-comparable broadband service is defined as any service that offers a minimum 512 kbps download and 128 kbps upload data speed, 3 GB per month data usage at a total cost of $2500 GST inclusive over three years (including installation and connection fees).
The Government has allocated $237.7 million over four years to 2012 to fund the Australian Broadband Guarantee, which complements the National Broadband Network by subsidising access to high quality broadband services where not otherwise available while the new network is rolled out.
